New Years 2010
Sunday, January 17, 2010
Catching up a little bit, we were able to spend a long weekend up at the cabin for New Years. There was just a little bit of snow on the ground... enough to justify getting all bundled up to feel it crunch under your boots.
Caleb, you can go play in the snow next year!
We just relaxed...

Christmas 2009 Baking Day

Can I just say, I am a COOKIE person! I love cake, pie, ice cream, and candy, but most of all I love cookies! So I get a little excited when this day rolls around each year. It's quite chaotic with all the kiddos underfoot, and this year they really wanted to help (can't blame them, but yuck), but we managed to get it all done. These are my favorite Christmas cookie recipes, and a few pictures of all the fun.
Shortbread
Peanut Butter Blossoms
Emilee's Chocolate Chip
Bear Claws (recipe posted here)
My mom showed me this book today and I absolutely loved it!

Papa Ken helped the kiddos decorate sugar cookies.
My mom and Aunt Debbe were cookie machines! We mostly just cheered them on...
Such a sweet Aunt Kaelyn. Laney and Noah are totally captivated when she reads to them.

Christmas Oatmeal Cookies
1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cup oatmeal
Cream butter and sugar together. Add vanilla, then flour and oatmeal. Drop 1 inch balls onto cookie sheet and flatten with fingers. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes and dust with powdered sugar.
Shortbread
1 pound butter
4 cups flour
1 cup sugar
Cream butter and sugar together. Gradually add flour, mixing by hand and kneading until all the flour is gone. Roll out 1/2 inch thick on floured surface. Cut cookies into 1 inch by 2 inch bars, and place on cookie sheets. Prick with a fork. Bake in a 300 degree oven for 40 minutes. Take them out of the oven when they are a tiny bit browned on the edges.
Peanut Butter Blossoms
(hardly a recipe)
We used a tube of premade peanut butter cookie dough. Just roll 1 inch balls of dough in sugar, and bake according to directions on package. One minute before they are done, press a Hershey's kiss in the middle and return to oven for one more minute.
Emilee's Chocolate Chip
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter melted
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3 cups flour
12 oz. bag of semisweet chocolate chips
Combine all ingredients together in order. Bake at 350 degrees for 11 minutes or until just golden brown.
All About Caleb (15 months)
Thursday, November 19, 2009
Caleb's vocabulary is really expanding these days! If he is in the right mood, he will repeat any thing we say, which is such a fun stage. These are his new "phrases":I did it! (usually when he is trying to do Noah's puzzles)
All better (when I put diaper cream on his little bum)
All done (when he wants to get out of his high chair, or finish his breathing treatment)
Hi Dada (when Cory comes home from work)
What he's learning:
Eating with utensils
Family member's names
Animal sounds
Eyes, Ears, Mouth, Nose..
Other things he does that I can't get enough of:
He pats my back when I hold him.
He randomly runs up to me, hugs my legs and says "squeeeze" (just like Noah does).
He gives kisses on the cheek (mouth wide open) on demand.
When Noah goes to his room for time-out (usually for being too rough with his little brother), Caleb will wait by the door to Noah's room and cry because he can't go in too. He's such a little sweetheart!
He likes to be rocked, cuddled, and sung to for a few minutes, and then I just lay him in his bed and he puts himself to sleep. His favorite song is "Trust and Obey" and he always repeats the word "obey" after me. This is a good indication of future behavior, right? He sleeps at least 12 hours every night, and literally hasn't woken up in the middle of the night for months!
What he likes to eat:
Favorite fruit: strawberries or grapes
Favorite veggie: green beans
Favorite cracker: fishy
Favorite cheese: string
Favorite cereal: multi-grain cheerios with milk
He has definitely grown up a little faster having an older brother to keep up with. I love each new stage, but miss the baby things he leaves behind too. I guess that's why I like stop and write these things down.

I haven't had too much to post about lately. The kids have been sick, so mostly my pictures would be of snotty nosed sad little boys in there PJ's. So I haven't had the camera out of the case very much lately. But I'm thinking we are getting better now. These are pictures from the cabin that Cory's mom took this fall.
Cory and Caleb having a good time at the park.
Three generations of Gransee men.
Making sure Caleb's little tree is okay.
Noah at a car show up in Show Low. He continues to love all things cars.
I'm not sure if this picture makes me want to laugh or cry! Caleb is back on breathing treatments for the flu season, so we are pretty used to seeing him like this. I think it's really cute when babies have ears that stick out, but I'm glad his don't look like this all the time!

What I Love
Wednesday, September 23, 2009
Just reflecting on the things in my life that I am loving right now, for example...
I'm loving how Caleb and Noah like to reach across the backseat of the car to hold hands while we drive (until Noah pulls a little too hard and Caleb starts to cry)
I'm loving how Caleb loves his strawberry, banana, and spinach smoothie every morning. Noah likes to push the buttons on the blender, but just wants one little sip.
I'm loving that Noah and Cory are having some one on one time together.
I'm loving the new mom's group at church.
I'm loving the things I am learning in my Tuesday morning Bible study, "Calm My Anxious Heart." Its so much more than being worry free, and more like learning to be content with all God has given.
I'm loving these chocolate chip cookies:
Mix all together: 2 sticks butter, 3/4 cups brown sugar, 3.5oz instant vanilla pudding, 1 tsp. vanilla.
Beat in 2 eggs
Mix: 2 1/4 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
Mix all together, and add 12 oz bag chocolate chips. Bake on stone at 375 for 8-10 minutes.
Sound familiar, Trudy M?
I'm loving that it just might be getting cooler soon.
I'm loving falling asleep to Chris Rice's The Living Room Sessions every night.
I'm loving how I can look forward to a long kiddo-free weekend in San Diego with my husband.
I'm loving that I found two new shirts for my husband on sale today, and that my mom wanted to buy me a new shirt too.
I'm loving that Caleb said "Amen" when we finished praying for our lunch today.
I'm really loving how Fresh and Easy has fairly good prices, little coupons, bags groceries for you, carries my favorite Greek yogurt, never has long lines at checkout, free stickers, crayons, and coloring books for kids, has clean restrooms, and close parking for people with kids.
How about you?

Happy 1st Birthday Caleb!
Sunday, July 26, 2009
Last weekend Caleb turned one! These are the things I want to remember about him at this age.Likes: Pushing trains around Noah's train track, books, snuggling with his pappy and blankie, keeping Noah company when he's in timeout, strawberry smoothies, doggies and playing in the toilet.
Dislikes: Bibs, long car rides, sitting in the high chair at restaurants, being mistreated or smothered by his big brother
Words: All done, uh-oh, dada, cracker
Stats: 21 lbs, 13 oz (25%)
31.5 inches (95%)

More Cabin Pics
Tuesday, June 23, 2009
We decided to celebrate Father's Day and Cory's dad's birthday all together up at the cabin, so here are more pictures taken in the lovely cool pines of Show Low. We went up a day earlier than everyone else, and spent some time with my grandparents who spend much of the summer up north where it's nice and cool and green and quiet. We had fun with them feeding the ducks, playing at the park, and grilling some hot dogs too.

Being the boy that he is, Noah has such a fascination with wheels. Imagine the excitement he displayed when his Nana and Bompa arrived at the cabin towing this new toy. Meet "the Rhino". Cory took me for a little spin through the forest, and we were surprised to see a few deer in our path!
And this little cutie hasn't really decided that walking is easier than crawling yet, but he is working on it!

Boy Talk
Monday, May 11, 2009
Hope you all had a good Mother's Day. I love being a mom. I love that I get to be a mom to two sweet boys. Even though I think I could make a pretty darn cute hair bow, I think God really gave me a special gift when he gave me my boys. (((Sigh contentedly)))
This little boy is really working hard on choosing to listen and obey. "I will obey, Mama." While he tends to be a little bit of a wanderer, I'm seeing a lot of effort on his part lately. "I won't run away, Mama." He is working really hard on potty training too, and I am so proud of him. It makes my heart so full when I see him starting to take his big brother role seriously. I received some good advice from my aunt (who has boys). She told me to nurture his "big brother instinct". Instead of pushing Caleb away when he comes near his toys, he is learning how to take care of his little brother and help him find his own toy to play with. When I dropped the boys off at my sister's to get my hair done today, I told him to be good and help take care of baby Caleb. He reassured me, "I will take care of him," and then added, "I will hold him." It was very sweet, but scared me a little because he usually holds him by his neck! It's also fun to see the admiration in Caleb's eyes too, as he crawls around after Noah wherever he goes. I pray that God will continue to bless their relationship, and that their bond will grow strong as the years go by.

I must kiss those cheeks a hundred times a day. We are seriously in love with this baby! [9 Month Stats]
Height: 29.5 inches (85%)
Weight: 20 lbs (40%)
Caleb is definitely loosing some of his chunk due to the fact that he is in constant motion. He is exactly one pound lighter and one inch shorter than Noah was at this age.

Upright
Monday, April 06, 2009
So soon after the crawling skills come, the pulling up phase follows. As you can see by his face, Caleb is oh-so-proud of himself, while behind the camera, his mother is oh-so-nervous. I remember this phase with Noah, and all the inevitable bumps and bruises too. I think Caleb's new upright stature makes him look so much older than just eight months. Just to see you smile...
Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Noah has recently discovered something about his little brother. He can make him laugh! Caleb has one of those really satisfying giggles that makes you want to laugh too. So when Noah discovers some kind of silly face or nonsense noise that makes Caleb laugh, he will do it over and over and over again. It's really sweet to see them interact this way. All part of the brotherhood bond I think.

I'm still amazed at how different these boys are. Sometimes I think they look alike, but I found these pictures taken in the same place and around the same age (Noah is about six weeks older) and I think that other than their fair skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes, they do look very different.

Train Park
Friday, February 20, 2009
It felt so good to enjoy the 70 degree weather at the train park today. Laney and Noah played on the playground and watched the train pass by before they took a ride on it themselves.
When it came time for the train to leave the station, Noah was a little nervous, so Laney held him extra close. Such a good cousin she is.
Caleb looked cute enough to eat in his little train hat... BG's shoulder was perfect for teething. All four top teeth are trying to come through at the same time! Poor baby.

Saturday, January 24, 2009
Caleb will be six months on Monday! We're still trying to get him healthy (respiratory stuff), and when I took him to the pediatrician last Wednesday, he had two ear infections. Despite all this, he remains smiley and content. He is rolling all over the place, has two teeth, and weighs 19 lbs. We adore this little guy!

I can't help myself... I know that buying shoes for a baby who is months away from even crawling is a complete waste of money, but these little pedipeds were way too cute to resist!Finding the time...
Thursday, November 13, 2008
When I was still pregnant with Caleb, I went to see my hair stylist/friend/therapist for that final pre-baby cut and color. She asked me if I was ready for what was to come, and I expressed the typical concern of finding the time to meet the needs of an additional little life. She encouraged me that I would be just fine, but that I might not find I have the same amount of time to "just stare at the baby" like I did with Noah. Oh boy, was she right! But every now and then, I like to force myself to let the little chores wait, and take the time to just stare at my sweet baby's face. I'm loving the way his eyelashes rest so finely on his soft cheeks. These moments are little gifts from God to cherish, even in the midst of all the busyness of motherhood. Thank you Lord!

Two Month Update
Wednesday, October 01, 2008
Caleb is a little past two months old, and we had his well check up on Monday. He weighed 13 pounds 7 ounces (80th percentile) and was 24 inches long (90th percentile). He is working on perfecting his smile (getting both corners to curl up at the same time) and is sleeping six to seven hours at night.

Walking Buddies
Wednesday, September 24, 2008
I've always hated to exercise, but I've found that I don't mind walking. I know it's not the world's best workout, but it does at least help tone the postpartum flubber. Noah, Caleb and I have been waking up early to beat the heat. We have a great urban fishing lake nearby, and we do a few laps around the lake and then hit the park on the way home. Sometimes we meet my cousin Melissa and her baby Aaron there too (sorry if you read her blog too, as we are copycating each other).
As you can see, Noah was mad that we stopped to take a picture. Little stinker! He is SO two.

Saturday, September 20, 2008
So many people have asked me if I think Noah and Caleb look alike, and I can't decide. Sometimes I see resemblance in their expressions, and they do have similar coloring. Most of the time I feel like they have their own distinct looks. They do both like to sleep with their mouths open with pappys stuck to their chins!

Friday, September 12, 2008
The past six weeks have flown by, as they always do when I'm in a busy season. Because I always want to remember what my boys were like at each stage of development, I thought I'd make note of what they are up to right now.
Caleb is a sleeper. He is a little over six weeks old, and he is still only awake for a few hours each day. He wakes up usually once (sometimes twice) in the night to eat, and then returns to peaceful slumber. He smiled at me for the first time last night, and man, was it ever a cute one! Now he has us talking in a way to high-pitched voice, way too close to his face, trying to draw out another smile. "Can you smile at mommy little guy?" He is a good eater, and I'm looking forward to seeing his weight progress at his doctor's appointment in a couple weeks. He is nice and chubby, and I love the way his eyes look when he wears blue.
Noah is still loving his "Baby Cah-Chi". Multiple times throughout the day he walks up to Caleb and says, "Hi Baby Cah-Chi! Wah doonin?" (Whatcha doin?) Of course, Caleb is usually sound asleep. He likes to kiss his head and give him "toe five". Its just like giving "five" with your hand, except foot to foot. It's a Noah thing. Noah is a smart cookie (of course his mother thinks so). He can count to ten, sing the ABC's (but not for an audience), and recognizes all the letters and colors. He is also learning to play the violin (just kidding, not that smart). Almost all his sentences end in "right here!" Like, "A cool (school) bus, Mimi! Right here!" Noah will imitate everything he hears, so we have to watch everything we say. He is still in love with all things with wheels. He amazes me by recognizing people's cars. When we are driving, he will point out all the Honda Van's, Ford Mustangs, and Ford trucks because this is what our family members drive. Sometimes he will watch the road in front of our house out his bedroom window for a long time, studying the cars that go by. If you ask him a question, he will always say, "yah". If he actually means yes, he will be more enthusiastic with his "yah!". His favorite TV shows are Sesame Street and Curious George. Hard to say, but I think his favorite book right now is Cars and Trucks and Things That Go. His favorite foods are macaroni and cheese, any kind of fruit, and ketchup.
My sleep tank may be a little empty, but my heart is so full. I am blessed!

All kinds of sweetness...
Thursday, August 14, 2008
I love nights at home when our schedules line up and we all just get to be together with nothing to do. Add in a nice summer storm, and the smell of homemade brownies...
While I made these brownies, Noah entertained himself with my mixer (and wore one of Daddy's socks).
And Caleb worked on his tummy time... Such a sweet baby!

This afternoon we had a visit from my Aunt Debbe. This is the boys' great aunt, and hopefully their future preschool teacher. She brought over a yummy homemade pizza and cookies. Noah loves his Baby "Cah-Chi". I thought he would either be really jealous, or completely ignore him, but he is constantly asking to see the baby. Any time Caleb hiccups, cries, or opens his eyes, Noah thinks it's just the funniest thing and laughs hysterically. It'll be fun to watch them interact even more as Caleb gets older. So far, I feel like Caleb is an "easier" baby than Noah was. But it definitely adds another element of difficulty to have to protect Caleb from the ever eager two year old. Family of Four
Wednesday, July 30, 2008
Cory and I agree that today we finally feel a little bit "recovered". I'm so glad he has the week off to help us out around the house! I'm beginning to feel like my body is well on the road to healing, and even got out of the house for a little bit today to run some errands with my mom. Noah needed his haircut, and we went out to lunch at Paradise Bakery for my favorite turkey and cranberry sandwich. We are so glad that we decided to go ahead and attempt the VBAC. Our birth experience was wonderful, and we saw evidence of God's protective and loving hand in it all. We are so in love with our little family of four!

Today's the Day!
Saturday, July 26, 2008
Our sweet baby Caleb is here. We arrived at the hospital at 5:30 am this morning. They administered an epidural at 10:30 am. Around 6:15 pm they broke my water. I was completely dilated at 7:30 pm, and began pushing at 8:15 pm. At 9:17 pm, Caleb was born.
He weighs 8lbs 3oz and is 20 inches long. We are hoping for a good night's rest and we cannot wait for morning, so that Noah can finally meet his baby brother!

Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Just another little update here... I went to my doctor today and she says that I am " a good 3 cm" dilated and that the head is very low (3+/80/0 to +1). This was very encouraging to me, and I am finding myself a little more attached to the idea of not having a c-section after all. I have been sleeping more on the couch than in my bed, and am feeling generally uncomfortable all the time. It is good to know that the end of my pregnancy is drawing near, and that soon I will be holding my sweet baby boy. God is good (regardless of what happens and when).
36 weeks and 3 days... and waiting.
Wednesday, July 16, 2008
I had a doctor's appointment today, and this kiddo's head is officially "down". I am dilated 2cm (2/50/-1, for my L&D RN friends) and I feel like this is a good sign so far. We'll see what if anything changes for next week's appointment. In the meantime, I'll keep waiting... since I have no other choice! I am trying to make the most of my last few weeks with just Noah, and not be too anxious about timing I have no control over.
Nesting Update
Thursday, July 03, 2008
As I look back on my previously posted Baby #2 to do list, I can see some light at the end of the tunnel and I'm feeling pretty good. Noah's new room is all set up with his new bunk beds, wall letters, and pictures on the wall. His toys and clothes have found a new home. The new baby's nursery is finished as well. The wall letters are up, and the closet is stocked with newborn and size 1 diapers. My mom came over this week and helped me wash, sort, and put away my baby boy clothes. We also washed all the bottles and made a list of a few things left to purchase, like pappys and white newborn socks. Seeing how tiny all of Noah's old clothes are made me realize how quickly he's grown. I'll have to remember that when I'm up at all hours of the night with this little one.
Kaelyn gave Noah a book about being a big brother for his birthday, and he asks me to read it to him just about everyday. We talk about the baby that is coming, and he points to my tummy and says "baby". I say, "That's right buddy, baby Caleb is in mommy's tummy. Can you say Caleb?" Confidently, as if he is repeating exactly what I said, he replies, "Cah-chi!" Hmmm... I guess we still have a few more weeks to work on that one!
I had my 34 week appointment earlier this week, and I'm getting pretty good at being weighed, giving "samples", and listening to the heartbeat. My c-section date has been changed from 08-04-08 to 08-08-08 due to my doctor's vacation schedule. Noah's c-section was going to be scheduled on 06-06-06, but when we realized how that looked, my doctor changed it as well! We'll see what happens with this little guy! We're getting pretty excited around here!
If I can gripe for a mintue... sleep is getting a little hard to come by. I think this is how God prepares new mom's for what is to come! Lately, I have a hard time falling asleep due to heartburn, and usually wake up a few times to use the bathroom. It's helpful to have at least 3-4 pillows to prop myself up with, and I usually end up sneaking a nap during the daytime.
But here are some things I couldn't live without this pregnancy:
McDonald's 69 cent vanilla cones
Tums
My parent's swimming pool
Bimonthly pedicures
Mimi maternity clothes
My dear, sweet, loving, husband... who tells me I'm cute, listens to me whine, rubs my sore back, doesn't mind PB&J for dinner, and still wants to have more kids!
Making progress...
Tuesday, June 10, 2008
With 7-8 more weeks to go until our new little one makes his way into the world, I am really trying to get everything ready before I'm too round to even get around. I was remembering how excited and organized I was when we were getting Noah's nursery decorated and furnished. I had taped out where his furniture would be situated around the room, and carefully selected all my favorite items from the Pottery Barn Kids catalog. I know it's kind of goofy, but it helps me visualize!
While I am equally excited about this new baby, I don't have the time to be quite so intentional, but we are making way with our nursery and Noah's new room. A new set of bunk beds are on their way and two matching quilts are ready to go. I have ordered some wall letters to spell out the boys' names. I tracked down the perfect diaper bag yesterday, so I can check that one off the list. All of this preparation is keeping me busy, and in addition to this Noah and I have been having so much fun swimming almost every day. I'm thinking the next eight weeks will be over before I know it at this pace!

I am almost 28 weeks along now, and I've started to feel the need to get things organized. I went into labor with Noah at 38 weeks, and let me be honest... while I know I could very well not do the same this time, I'm still kind of hoping I will. So this leaves me with 10 weeks, give or take! Isn't it funny how pregnant women always make it sound like they are as far along as they can possibly make it sound? We've decided that Noah will move into the guest room, and the new baby will have his old nursery. It always helps to make a list of what needs to be done, so here it is:
Even though this seems like a lot to do and I'm sure I'm forgetting somethings, it's so fun to prepare for this new little one... Today I made a big batch of spaghetti sauce to divide into freezer bags and store away. Here is the recipe my family always makes with my own variation.
- finish cleaning out Noah's new room (former guest room)
- pick up hand me down toddler bed from friend's house for Noah's new room
- transfer Noah's toys and books into his new room
- sort through Noah's old baby clothes, wash, and put in nursery dresser
- make or buy name letters for the nursery wall (decide on baby's name first!)
- prepare and freeze a few extra meals
- stock up on newborn diapers and size one diapers as they go on sale
- find a baby sling (I'm considering one from hotslings.com, any suggestions?)
- design birth announcement
- decide on and purchase candy announcements for those who come to visit (with Noah we did little tins of blue and white M&M's with his name printed on each candy)
1 lb ground beef
1 lb sweet italian sausage
1 TB minced onion
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. italian seasoning
Slice italian sausage into chunks, and brown on all sides in a large pot. Remove from pan and drain excess oil. Brown ground beef along with seasonings. Add browned sausage back into pot.
To the meat mixture add:
2 pkg. spaghetti mix (I use McKormick's thick and zesty)
3 cups water
30 oz tomato sauce
12 oz tomato paste
20 oz crushed tomatoes
1 TB sugar
Mix well, and bring to boil, then simmer on low heat for at least two hours.
We're having a ....

So despite my flakiness, I managed to make it to my ultrasound at the correct time, and before the ultrasound technician could even reveal the baby's gender to us, it was staring us right in the face, as clear as a, well, boy part. We are so excited to have two little boys in our family! So now we need to think about names... I don't want to steal any of your future boy's names, but any suggestions? We like easy to say and spell, not too trendy, not too boring, and not too common names. Thanks!

Our Peanut
Wednesday, January 30, 2008
This morning Cory and I went to our OB's office for my 12 week ultrasound. The baby is about 2 1/4 inches long. Everything looks just as it should... or so they say. Are babies supposed to have such big heads and skinny legs? :) Check out the sweet little knees in the second picture (3D). So cute! Still not sure if its a boy or girl. We'll probably find out at our 18 week ultrasound. Until then, keep growing little peanut!
Noah has been sick this week with croup. So we've been up a lot at night, and trying to lay low in the day. Not so fun. I think I take good health for granted.

Monday, January 07, 2008
Today I went in for my first prenatal doctor's appointment. Cory met me there, just in case they decided to do an ultra sound. As I was having my physical examination, the nurse practitioner thought I had a "pretty good belly bump" going, and that I looked further along than nine weeks. She asked me if I was sure of my dates, and I thought I was, but of course started doubting myself. She decided to try to hear the baby's heartbeat with the Doppler, which only works when you are further along than nine weeks. When she easily found the heartbeat with the Doppler she was pretty sure that I was a month further along that we thought. I was excited yet confused at how this could be so. She then did an ultra sound to confirm what she suspected, and the baby measured exactly nine weeks. So we concluded that our dates were right along, and I just have premature belly bump going on. Thanks for getting my hopes up! But all in all in was a great visit, and I was thrilled to know that the baby's heartbeat is going strong.
Big Brother!
Thursday, January 03, 2008
Doesn't he look so proud of his new title? That's right, Noah is going to be a big brother!
We felt so blessed to be able to share our good news with our families this Christmas. I'm a little past two months along, and I'm feeling, well... how two months along usually feels! Some days are better than others... We just returned from a wonderful visit with my dad's family in southern California. We also got to celebrate Christmas there with my brother Jeff and sister-in-law Jenna.
